Important News: The forthcoming Google Algorithm Update will force businesses to adopt a mobile web design – or else! The update is bad news for all websites that are not mobile friendly, it will force businesses to adopt mobile mobile web design to ensure that their website is configured properly and viewable on modern devices.
Google’s Announcement: “Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.”
What does this means ? Mobile friendly web design will be favoured in search engine results, especially mobile search.
What does this mean for website owners ? For any website owner that has a static or non responsive website that doesn’t work on mobile devices, the update could signal, not the end of the world, but the end of their web world. If sites that are mobile friendly are going to be rewarded with better search engine results, it’s obvious that non-mobile sites will lose search engine rankings, and most probably a significant decrease in web traffic. It’s not clear whether static sites will be actually penalised, however a if competitor site is mobile compliant, they will only gain. This can only have a negative impact on a business.
Why do you need a mobile web design ? If the threat of loosing rankings isn’t enough, in 2014 a huge 30% of internet use came from mobile devices; in 2015 this amount is set to reach as much as 50% of mobile usage. This means that half of any businesses traffic will be coming from phones and tablets. It’s not difficult to see how losing this traffic can seriously harm a business, and any business owner with a website that isn’t mobile compliant must take action as soon possible or tun the risk of seeing a significant drop in web traffic and probably business as well. Any web based business that isn’t responsive yet must take immediate action now
